How to Cancel Amazon Prime (2026): Step-by-Step
Go to amazon.com/mc (your Prime membership page), open Manage membership on the right, click End membership, then click through the three confirmation screens until you see End on [date] or End now. "End on date" keeps Prime until the paid period runs out; "End now" stops it today and refunds the unused part if you have not used Prime benefits this period. Either way, Amazon sends a confirmation email.
Cancel Amazon Prime from the website or app
Amazon's cancellation flow is famous for being long. It is not hard; it is just three pages of "are you sure" with the real button at the bottom of each. Here is the route:
- Sign in and open the Prime page. On the website: Account & Lists → Prime Membership, or go straight to amazon.com/mc (amazon.co.uk/mc, amazon.de/mc and so on for other stores). In the app: Menu → Prime → Manage membership.
- Click Manage membership, then Update, cancel and more. A short menu opens under the membership summary.
- Click End membership. Page one lists the benefits you would lose. Scroll past it and click Continue to cancel.
- Page two offers to remind you 3 days before renewal instead. Ignore it and click Continue to cancel again.
- Page three is the real one. You will see End on [date] and, if you qualify, End now. Pick one. The confirmation email arrives immediately and the Prime page shows your end date.
End on date or End now? If you have used any Prime benefit this period (a free delivery, an episode on Prime Video, a song on Amazon Music), choose "End on date" and use the rest of what you paid for. If you have not used anything, "End now" refunds the remaining time to your card. Amazon shows the refund amount, if any, before you confirm.
Cancelling a free trial
Trials convert to a paid membership on the last day unless you cancel. The path is identical, and the third screen says End trial instead. Two things worth knowing: cancelling on day one keeps the trial benefits for the full 30 days, so there is no reason to wait, and Amazon's "remind me before it ends" option on page two actually works if you would rather keep the trial and decide later.
Prime through a phone provider, Prime Video only, or someone else's account
Bundled with a mobile or broadband plan
Some carriers include Prime in a tariff. The Prime page will show the membership as provided by the carrier and will not let you end it on Amazon. Cancel it through the carrier; the benefits end when they remove it from your plan.
Prime Video standalone
In countries where Prime Video is sold on its own, it is cancelled from primevideo.com/settings under Subscriptions, not from the Prime page. Prime Video channels (Paramount+, Max and others added inside Prime Video) are cancelled from the same place, and they end at the period end with no refund.
Household members
If you get Prime through Amazon Household, only the account that pays can cancel. Leaving the household removes your benefits but does not stop the other person's payment.
What you lose, and what stays
Gone at the end date: free fast delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Music Prime, Prime Reading, Prime Gaming, the Prime Day deals, and unlimited full-resolution photo storage in Amazon Photos.
Stays: your Amazon account, order history, wish lists, Kindle books, purchased videos and music, and 5 GB of Amazon Photos storage. If you are over 5 GB when Prime ends, Amazon stops accepting new uploads but does not delete existing photos right away; download or thin out the library within the grace period Amazon emails you about.
Anything still on order ships as it was placed. Delivery terms on new orders change the day the membership ends.
When it does not go as planned
"I cancelled but Prime is still active"
Check the Prime page. If it shows an end date, the cancellation worked and benefits simply run until then. If it shows a renewal date, you probably stopped on page two; go back and click through to the final screen.
"I was charged for Prime and I do not have an account"
Someone in the household does, using your card. Search email addresses on the family's devices, or ask your bank for the account email on the charge; Amazon customer service can also look it up from the card number and cancel or refund it.
"The membership is on an old email I cannot access"
Amazon customer service can end a membership and refund it once you verify the payment card. Use the chat at amazon.com/contact-us; it is faster than the phone.
