Amazon Prime is one of the few subscriptions that refunds itself. Cancel from the Prime membership page and, if you have not used a Prime benefit in the current period, the final screen offers End now with a full refund of that period. If you have used benefits, you get "End on date" instead and, depending on the country, a reduced refund or none. Charged for a trial you meant to cancel, or for a membership you did not know existed? Customer service chat refunds those routinely.
Amazon's Prime terms are clearer than most: if you have not used any Prime benefits during the current membership period, you can cancel and receive a full refund of that period. If you have used benefits, Amazon may refund a proportion depending on your country and how much you used. The refund appears automatically in the cancellation flow; you do not have to ask for it.
What counts as "using a benefit": a delivery with Prime shipping, any stream on Prime Video, any song on Amazon Music Prime, a Prime Reading download, a Prime Gaming claim. One episode is enough to change "End now, full refund" into "End on date".
Three things are outside the policy and are handled case by case by customer service: a free trial that converted when you meant to cancel, a membership on an account you did not know existed (a family member with your card), and Prime Video Channels, which end at the period end with no refund.
Annual members: the same rule applies to the whole year. Cancel an annual plan in month two without having used any benefit and Amazon refunds the year; use one delivery and the refund becomes partial or, in some countries, nothing. Check the screen before you confirm.
Full cancellation walkthrough: How to cancel Amazon Prime.
Amazon customer service is unusually willing to refund a recent Prime charge when the story is simple. Three situations that get refunded most days:
Prime Video Channels (Paramount+, Max, Starz and others subscribed inside Prime Video) follow the usual streaming rule: cancel any time, keep access until the period ends, no refund for the remaining days. Cancel them at primevideo.com/settings under Subscriptions.
Rented or purchased films are different: Amazon lets you cancel a digital video order within 48 hours of purchase if you have not started watching it. Go to Your Orders, find the video, and choose Cancel your order. After 48 hours, or after pressing play, it is final.
In the EU and UK you can cancel a new Prime membership within 14 days and receive a full refund, and Amazon's own policy goes further by refunding any period in which you used no benefits. If you used benefits inside the 14 days, Amazon may deduct a proportion. Beyond that, the usual protection applies: a charge you did not authorise or a charge after cancellation is a billing error, and if Amazon will not correct it your card issuer can reverse it.
Yes, if you have not used any Prime benefit in the current period: the cancel flow offers End now with a full refund of that period. If you have used benefits, the refund is reduced or zero depending on your country, and Prime runs to the end date instead.
Usually yes, if you did not use Prime after the trial. Contact customer service by chat with the charge date; they check usage and refund the charge.
Refunds issued in the cancel flow or by customer service reach the original payment method in about 3 to 5 business days. Some banks take a few days longer to show it.
No. Channels subscribed inside Prime Video end at the end of the paid period without a refund. Cancel them at primevideo.com/settings.
Within 48 hours of the purchase and only if you have not started watching it. Cancel the order from Your Orders. After that, or once played, it is final.
Contact Amazon customer service with the charge date and the last four digits of the card. They can locate the account, end the membership and refund the recent charge, and you can then block the card if it was not a family member.
