Can You Get a Disney+ Refund? Policy and How to Ask

Updated September 9, 2026 · 6 min read · By SubLess Team

Quick answer

Disney+ does not refund partial periods: cancel and you keep access to the end date, monthly or annual, and the remaining time is not paid back. Billing errors are the exception, a charge after you cancelled or a duplicate charge, and Disney+ handles those through live chat or phone from the Help Center. The twist with Disney+ is that most people do not pay Disney directly: if Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or a phone provider bills you, the refund decision is theirs.

What Disney+ actually refunds

The subscriber agreement is blunt: no refunds or credits for partially used subscription periods. That applies to monthly plans, annual plans and the bundles. Cancelling an annual plan in month three does not return nine months; it stops the renewal next year.

Where Disney+ does put money back:

  • Charged after you cancelled, with the cancellation confirmation email as proof.
  • Charged twice for one period, usually because two accounts exist (one created on a smart TV, one on a phone).
  • A subscription you did not start, which means someone used your card or your account was taken over.

Grey zone: an annual plan that renewed a few days ago and has not been used since. Disney+ agents sometimes refund it as a goodwill gesture if you ask promptly and have not watched anything since the renewal. It is a favour, not a right.

First: who actually charges you

Open disneyplus.com/account and look at the Subscription section. If it says billed through Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku, Hulu or a provider, Disney never received your payment and cannot refund it. Disney+ support will tell you exactly that and send you to the partner. Skip to partner refunds.

If it shows your plan with a Cancel link and a payment card, Disney bills you and the next section applies.

How to ask Disney+ for a refund

  1. Cancel first if you do not want the service, so the charge does not repeat. How to cancel Disney+. Cancelling does not cut your access early.
  2. Open help.disneyplus.com and scroll to the bottom for Live Chat or Call Us. Sign in first; the agent needs to see the account.
  3. Give the facts in three lines: charge date and amount, last four digits of the card, and one sentence: "charged after cancelling on [date]", "charged twice", or "did not sign up".
  4. Ask the agent to confirm the refund in the chat and save the transcript. Approved refunds reach the card in 5 to 10 business days.

Word for word: "I cancelled Disney+ on 2 September (confirmation email attached) and was charged $13.99 on 6 September on a card ending 4321. Could you refund that charge?" Short requests get answered; long ones get escalated and forgotten.

Refunds from Apple, Google, Amazon and Roku

Apple

Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the paying Apple Account, choose Request a refund, pick a reason and select the Disney+ charge. Apple decides in about 48 hours and is generally lenient with one accidental renewal.

Google Play

Within 48 hours of the charge, open play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory, find the Disney+ charge and choose Request a refund. After 48 hours Google refers you to the developer; contact Disney+ chat and say the subscription is billed by Google, so the agent can see both sides.

Amazon

Disney+ bought on a Fire TV or as a Prime Video Channel is refunded by Amazon customer service, and only case by case. Go to amazon.com/contact-us → Prime Video → Channels, and ask by chat with the charge date.

Roku

Roku Pay subscriptions are refunded through Roku support at support.roku.com, not Disney. Roku refunds an unwanted renewal within a short window if you ask quickly.

Phone, internet or TV provider

The provider took the payment and the provider decides. Contact them with the date you asked to remove Disney+ from the plan and the bill that still shows it. Expect the credit on the next bill rather than a refund to a card.

Your rights in the EU and UK

New subscriptions in the EU and UK carry a 14-day right of withdrawal. Disney+'s regional terms honour it, but once you start watching you have agreed to immediate access and given up the right, which is what the sign-up screen asks you to confirm. A charge after cancellation or a duplicate charge is not a withdrawal; it is an error, and Disney+ corrects errors regardless of policy. If it refuses to correct a clear one, your card issuer can reverse the charge; treat that as the last step.

When a refund request will not work

  • You watched during the period. Disney+ can see viewing activity; one episode ends the request.
  • Annual plan, months in. No proportional refund, ever. Keep using it until the anniversary.
  • Gift subscriptions and prepaid cards. Not refundable once redeemed.
  • The bundle. Cancelling the Disney Bundle does not refund any part of it; each service runs to the end date.

The way to avoid this page: a reminder a few days before the renewal date, which Disney+ shows on the Account page under Subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Does Disney+ refund unused time if I cancel?

No. Monthly or annual, you keep access until the end date and the remaining time is not refunded. Cancel the day before renewal to avoid paying for a period you do not want.

My annual Disney+ plan just renewed and I forgot to cancel. Can I get a refund?

Officially no. In practice, contact Disney+ chat within days of the renewal, before watching anything, and ask politely; agents sometimes refund a fresh annual renewal as a goodwill gesture. If Apple, Google or Amazon billed you, ask them instead; Apple in particular often refunds one unused renewal.

I was charged for Disney+ after cancelling. What do I do?

If Disney bills you, contact Disney+ chat with the cancellation confirmation email and the charge date. If Apple, Google, Amazon, Roku or a provider bills you, the cancellation must also be done there, and they issue the refund.

How long does a Disney+ refund take?

Refunds approved by Disney+ reach the card in 5 to 10 business days. Apple and Google decide within about 48 hours and the money follows a few days later.

Will a chargeback close my Disney+ account?

It often does. Disney+ treats a disputed charge as unpaid and may suspend the account. Use it only after Disney+ has refused to fix a clear billing error.
