Can You Get a Adobe Creative Cloud Refund? Policy and How to Ask

Updated September 9, 2026 · 6 min read · By SubLess Team

Quick answer

Adobe refunds in full if you cancel within 14 days of buying or renewing a plan. After that it depends on the plan: monthly plans can be cancelled any time with no refund for the current month; annual plans paid monthly charge an early termination fee of 50% of the remaining months; annual plans paid upfront are not refunded after day 14. The fee is the part people fight about, and Adobe support waives or reduces it more often than the policy suggests, especially if you switch to a cheaper Adobe plan instead of leaving. Everything happens at account.adobe.com/plans.

Adobe's refund rules, plan by plan

  • Within 14 days of purchase or renewal: full refund, any plan. Cancel from the account page and the refund is automatic; the confirmation screen shows the amount.
  • Monthly plan, after 14 days: cancel any time. No refund for the month in progress; access continues to the end of it.
  • Annual plan, paid monthly, after 14 days: cancelling triggers an early termination fee of 50% of what remains on the contract. Eight months left at $59.99 is roughly $240 to leave.
  • Annual plan, paid upfront, after 14 days: no refund. Access continues until the anniversary; cancelling only stops the renewal.

The 14-day clock restarts at every renewal. If your annual plan renewed on the 1st and you notice on the 10th, you are inside the window and the full year comes back. That is the most valuable thing on this page.

Check which plan you are on before you do anything. Account → Plans → Manage plan shows "Annual, paid monthly", "Annual, prepaid" or "Monthly". Most people who complain about the fee did not know they were on an annual contract; the default at checkout is annual, paid monthly.

Getting the refund from the cancel flow

  1. Sign in at account.adobe.com/plans.
  2. Click Manage plan, then Cancel your plan. Adobe asks for a reason; any answer works.
  3. Read the summary screen carefully. Inside 14 days it says "You'll receive a full refund of [amount]". Outside 14 days on an annual-monthly plan it says "Early termination fee of [amount]". This is where you decide.
  4. Confirm if the numbers are acceptable. Refunds reach the card in 5 to 7 business days. If they are not acceptable, do not confirm; go to the next section.

Getting the early termination fee waived

Adobe does not advertise this, but the fee is negotiable, and three approaches work far more often than not:

  1. Switch, do not cancel. Changing to a cheaper Adobe plan (Photography, a single app, Adobe Express) inside the contract usually carries no fee at all. If you only need one app, this is the answer; you keep the annual commitment on a plan that costs a fraction.
  2. Take the retention offer. On the cancel screen Adobe often offers two or three months free to stay. Accept it, set a reminder, and cancel inside the 14 days after the next renewal, when the full refund applies and there is no fee.
  3. Ask support to waive it. Open helpx.adobe.com/contact, choose Plans & billing, start the chat, and say: "I want to cancel my annual plan. I did not realise it was an annual contract when I signed up. Can the early termination fee be waived?" Agents have discretion, and a calm request with a plausible reason (moved to a different tool, lost a job, bought it for a project that ended) is granted more often than refused.

Regulators in several countries have looked at exactly this fee and at how clearly the annual contract is disclosed at checkout. Mentioning that you were not clearly told about the annual term, if true, is a legitimate and effective point to make.

Billing errors: charged after cancelling, charged twice

Those follow the universal rule: they are errors, not policy, and Adobe corrects them. Contact support chat with the cancellation confirmation (Adobe emails one) or the two receipts, the charge dates and the last four digits of the card. Refunds for errors are usually agreed in the same chat.

Purchases made through the App Store (Lightroom mobile, some Adobe apps on iPad) are billed by Apple and refunded at reportaproblem.apple.com, not by Adobe.

Your rights in the EU and UK

The 14-day withdrawal right for online purchases in the EU and UK lines up with Adobe's own 14-day window, so the outcome is the same either way: full refund inside two weeks. Adobe's early termination fee has been challenged under consumer law in some jurisdictions; if you are in the EU or UK and Adobe refuses to waive it, a complaint to the national consumer authority is a real option, and saying so to support tends to move the conversation.

When you will not get money back

  • Prepaid annual plan, day 15 or later. The year is paid; use it.
  • Monthly plan, mid-month. The month is not refunded; access runs to its end.
  • Months of an unused subscription. Support may refund the last charge as a goodwill gesture; earlier months are gone.
  • Student and teacher plans that renewed at full price after eligibility lapsed. Adobe emails before this happens; the renewal is treated as valid, though the 14-day window still applies.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund from Adobe if I cancel?

Yes, in full, if you cancel within 14 days of buying or renewing. After that, monthly plans are not refunded for the current month, annual plans paid monthly charge a 50% early termination fee on the remaining months, and prepaid annual plans are not refunded.

What is the Adobe early termination fee?

50% of the remaining contract value on an annual plan paid monthly, charged when you cancel after the first 14 days. The cancel screen shows the exact amount before you confirm. Switching to a cheaper Adobe plan usually avoids it, and support can waive it.

How do I avoid the Adobe cancellation fee?

Three ways: switch to a cheaper Adobe plan instead of cancelling, accept the free-months retention offer and cancel within 14 days of the next renewal, or ask support by chat to waive the fee. All three work regularly.

My Adobe plan renewed and I forgot to cancel. Can I get the money back?

If the renewal was within the last 14 days, yes, in full: cancel from account.adobe.com/plans and the refund is automatic. Past 14 days, ask support; a recent unused renewal is often refunded as a goodwill gesture.

How long does an Adobe refund take?

5 to 7 business days to reach the original payment method after the cancellation or the support agreement. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple on Apple's timeline.

Which Adobe plan am I on?

Account → Plans → Manage plan. It says Annual, paid monthly; Annual, prepaid; or Monthly. Most subscriptions default to annual, paid monthly at checkout.
